The only geyser of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula is located here. The symbol of Sapareva Banya is the geyser – a fountain located in the center of the city.
Panichishte resort village
Panichishte resort village is located only 10 km away from Sapareva Banya. The area is suitable for walks and relaxation in the beautiful nature of the Rila Mountains. The village is also the starting point for one of the biggest natural attractions in Bulgaria – the Seven Rila Lakes.
The Seven Rila Lakes
The Seven Rila Lakes are undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural attractions on the Balkan Peninsula. This is a fabulous place worth seeing. The Seven Rila Lakes have a glacial origin. Each of the lakes has its own name depending on its shape and characteristics. A big event that takes place August 19 each year at the Seven Rila Lakes region is the gathering of the members of the White Brotherhood – the followers of Danov’s philosophy. At that time of the yeat they celebrate their New Year.
Rila Monastery
The Rila Monastery is a complex of religious, residential and commercial buildings with a total area of 8,800 square meters. The Rila Monastery is distinguished by its unique architecture. From the outside, with the 24-meter stone walls of its main buildings forming an irregular pentagon, the monastery has the appearance of a fortress. The monastery is located 70 km away from the town of Sapareva Banya. The Emar Hotel offers a shuttle to the monastery.
Resilovo Monastery
The Monastery named “Pokrov Bogorodichen” is a permanently active women’s monastery. Tsar Boris III himself made a significant donation for its construction.
In 1955, the monastery was fundamentally reconstructed. Residential buildings and a church were built. The annual celebration of Pokrov Bogorodichen Monastery is celebrated on October 1st.
